LYRICS

The sun in the sky
Let’s me know why I’m here
As it greets me in the morning
Warms my face with its rays
I feel the privilege of being here today

Take a breath in
Feel the air on my skin
How did I get here?
Who gave me this power to use my lungs?
To be a lucky one
Able to seize the day
How did I get to wake up in this place?

The birds in the trees
Sing about being free
They tell me all I need to know about life
Their melodies don’t follow no rules
They’re not caught up trying to be cool
They just sing however they like

Take a breath in
Feel the air on my skin
How did I get here?
Who gave me this power to use my lungs?
To be a lucky one
Able to seize the day
Why did I get to wake up in this place?

Take a breath in
Feel the air on my skin
How did I get here?
I’m so lucky to live this life

TO BE A LUCKY ONE - JOURNAL ENTRY

To Be A Lucky One is another song I wrote in the ‘I Heart Songwriting Club’, this is what I wrote to my songwriting group about the song:

”For this one I started thinking about the simplest privileges I have in life - like being able to wake up in the morning, go outside, feel the sun on my face and make something of the day. It's so easy to forget how lucky we are to have what we have, and while everyone has different struggles and adversity and life is super complicated - it's crazy that we're all here on this strange round thing we call earth and living these weird lives where we feel so much and we can learn so much, all the while knowing not a whole lot really about why the heck we're here.” (written Sept 2020 to my writing group).

I have a little snippet of the original acoustic recording straight after writing it, if you listen carefully you can hear the birds that inspired the second verse tweeting away in the background! In my old house there were a couple of trees right outside my bedroom window and every time I sat down to write a song the birds would make so much noise. They were in the background of most of my songwriting club voice memos, it was just a matter of time before the song would become about them!

I chose this song to close the album because it’s about finally focusing in, switching your mindset from ‘looking for something else’ to realising maybe what you should be looking for is right in front of you. Enjoying the sun on your face, the air in your lungs…it’s so incredibly easy to take for granted these small but amazing and beautiful everyday things. There’s good reason for our human nature to look toward the future, to question ourselves and always want something more, but all we ever really have is the moment we’re in and it’s so important to keep that in mind too.

To cap off these journals, I thought it would be fitting to share a few more behind the scenes studio photos and introduce you to the rest of the team behind this album.

If you’ve read all of these, or even just some of them - you’re an absolute legend. Thank you for being here!
